Week 3: Final Idea of Concept

In todays class we dicded as a group the final idea that we would present to the rest of the class. We decided to use the theme of chocoloate using Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as our concept. The reason for this is it portrays a feel good emotion, one that everyone can enjoy. This concept is fun and exciting and allows us to use our imaginations when desinging the exhibition. We felt as a group the idea targets both genders and all ages groups. We can use props such as chocolate fountains, chocolate and sweets to offer our guests, candy canes. The main colour will be brown as this portrays the chocolate, but also bright colours such as red, yellow, green, orange to show the different sweets.

  1. Hi Jemma,

I think the idea of Willy Wonka is fantastic! Now, you have to think of ways to conect it to your actual pieces exhibited (or to work you have done at Uni). I would suggest having a thorough look to some elements of the story, i.e. mechanisms that appear in the factory (by description of the book or by watching different versions of movies based in the book). I wouldn't concentrate only in the chocolate as an object but in the story. It is precisely the magic realism of it that makes it so appealing to all publics. It talks about daily life jobs, structures and places with a twist of magic. That is why I suggest you to concentrate in this magical objects (particularly mechanisms in the factory because they have a clearer relationship to the different pathways and projects in the group)and study their structure, colour and characteristics. From there you can get visual information, graphics, palette of colours, ideas for props, outfits, etc.
Hope this approach helps in order to make people in class understand how many interesting elements for an exhibition you can get from this topic.

    Good luck!
    Mariana.
